Diamond Buying Guide
Cut (MOST important)

Cut determines how well the diamond reflects light—this is what gives it that sparkle.
- Excellent / Ideal → maximum brilliance ✨
- Very Good → still great value
- Good or below → noticeably dull
If you compromise anywhere, don’t compromise here. A smaller, well-cut diamond will outshine a larger dull one.
Colour (how white it looks)

Graded from D (colourless) to Z (yellow tint).
- D–F → icy white (premium price)
- G–H → near colourless (best value sweet spot)
- I–J → slight warmth (often fine in yellow gold)
Most people can’t tell the difference between D and G without tools.
Clarity (internal flaws)

Measures internal imperfections (inclusions).
- FL / IF → flawless (rare, expensive)
- VS1–VS2 → tiny inclusions (great balance)
- SI1–SI2 → visible under magnification, sometimes eye-clean
Aim for “eye-clean”, not perfection—you’ll save a lot.
Carat (size/weight)

Carat affects size—but not sparkle.
- 1 carat = 0.2 grams
- Price jumps at “milestones” (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 etc.)
Tip: buy slightly under (e.g. 0.90 instead of 1.0)—looks the same, costs less.
Shape matters (style + price)

- Round brilliant → most sparkle, most expensive
- Oval / pear / marquise → look bigger per carat
- Emerald / asscher → less sparkle, more clarity visibility
- Cushion / princess → softer or modern alternatives
If you want size impact for budget → go oval or pear.
Certification (non-negotiable)

Please note you do not get this with melee stones ie very small 3mm and smaller, its just not cost effective to send them to the lab. Only buy diamonds with grading from trusted labs:
- GIA (Gemological Institute of America)
- IGI (International Gemological Institute)
Avoid uncertified stones—quality claims may be inflated.
Smart buying tips (this is where people save money)
- Choose G–H colour + VS2/SI1 clarity + Excellent cut
- Go just under key carat weights (0.9, 1.4 etc.)
- Consider lab-grown diamonds → 30–70% cheaper, visually identical
- Match diamond colour to metal:
- Yellow/rose gold → hides warmth
- White gold/platinum → needs higher colour
Natural vs Lab-Grown

Natural diamonds
- Formed over billions of years
- Higher price
- Traditional value perception
Lab-grown diamonds
- Chemically identical
- Much cheaper
- More ethical/environmental (depending on source)
Visually: no difference to the naked eye
Quick “cheat formula”
If you just want a solid choice without overthinking:
Excellent cut + G/H colour + VS2/SI1 clarity + just under target carat
That combination gives you the best balance of sparkle, size, and value.
